Chagas Disease Treatment Options

Chagas disease, also known as American trypanosomiasis, is a parasitic infection caused by the protozoan Trypanosoma cruzi. The parasite is transmitted to humans and other mammals by triatomine bugs, which are commonly known as "kissing bugs." Chagas disease predominantly affects poor populations in Latin America, where it is the leading cause of heart disease. If left untreated in the chronic phase, Chagas disease can cause serious heart and digestive organ complications.
