1. Rubber materials
The rubber material is commonly used as the flange gasket material, mainly including nitrile rubber (NBR), fluororubber (FKM), silicone rubber (Si), etc. Nitrile rubber has good oil resistance and is suitable for connecting mechanical equipment among them. Fluororubber has strong chemical corrosion resistance and is suitable for acid and alkali resistant environments. Silicone rubber has excellent high temperature resistance and it is suitable for connecting high-temperature pipelines.
2. Plastic materials
The materials of plastic flange gaskets mainly include polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), nylon (NYLON), polyester, etc. Among them, polytetrafluoroethylene has strong chemical inertness and good corrosion resistance. Nylon has strong toughness and it is suitable for low-temperature environments. Polyester has good strength and heat resistance.
3. Metal materials
The materials of metal flange gaskets mainly include stainless steel, copper, aluminum, etc. Among them, stainless steel flange gaskets have good corrosion resistance and high temperature resistance. Copper has good conductivity and thermal conductivity. Aluminum is lightweight and has good processing performance.
How to choose suitable materials for flange gaskets?
1. Select materials based on the connecting medium
Different media have different chemical properties and the materials of flange gaskets need to be selected according to the media. For example, flange gaskets made of fluororubber or PTFE materials can be used.
2. Choose materials based on working temperature
The temperature resistance of materials is one of the important considerations when choosing the materials of flange gaskets. If the temperature of the medium is higher than the temperature resistance range of the gasket material, problems such as aging, deformation, and cracking are prone to occur.
