In 2011, the Space Shuttle program officially ended. Due to budget cuts, NASA decided to retire the fabled space vehicle for good. It was the end of an era of space flight, and in the meantime, the Russian Soyuz will ferry astronauts to their destinations above. Yes, the Shuttle Program was marred with two tragedies resulting in deaths, and people thought that the whole thing was not worth the risk. Nevertheless, the contribution of this amazing piece of engineering to space exploration and science cannot be questioned.
